The Solar System, its Planets and Moons, Alternative Energy, Space Exploration, Astronomy.
Our Solar system is a very special and at the same time mundane place, just a speck in the Universe. The physical dimensions are know to scientists since hundreds of years. However the Earth and Moon are a sort of twin planet system, bonded together with gravity. This causes tidal waves (high and low tide) in the oceans. Satellites serve as weather forecasting devices, positioned in space on a certain distance of the Earth to relay weather and environmental data to be collected by Scientifically centers all over the world. The exploration of Mars (and maybe Venus) is again top priority as they are talking about revisiting and exploration of the Moon again in the near future, The astronomy forms a model for our solar system, expressing the distances in AU (astronomical unit), being the distance between Sun and Earth or about 150,000,000 km). On our earth, environmental concerns are important, in conserving energy, using alternative ways of generating electricity (tidal, wind, solar, geothermic energy) and avoiding as much as possible petro-chemical as this is limited and running to exhausting the resources of our precious planet, the blue marble. The outer planets such as Jupiter and Saturn play a dominant role in our solar system. They serve as giant "dust collectors", meaning they regulate and "clean" the space between the planets of all sorts of debris and deviate the trace of asteroids. The study of the weather on Earth has a connection with the solar heat (obvious), but also with the seasons, length of the year and day, the tidal forces and so on. A landing on the nearby Moon is not an easy task, so to speak. The technology of the past has to be updated considerably before such a task could be accomplished and finished. The use of hydrogen technology instead of petro-chemical origins is a paramount concern for the environmentalist. The heating of the Earth through the accumulation of carbon dioxide is causing a big increase and destabilisation of the weather pattern, more and heavier rain on a shorter time span. See the recent flooding in Europe and Mid-Asia as a warning and an example of the measures that have to be taken to find more solutions to the problems in the environment. So the solar system, the universe and our tiny planet are connected and we have to take care of the whole system AND our way of govern energy use in a much more conservative manner.
