The phenomenon 'Synchronicity' is since the time C.G. Jung worked on it still a very mysterious, hard to grasp item in our human life. The way these synchronistic events show up in a symbolic relation and are created baffles the mind and challenges us to our deepest, most elaborate research into our consciousness and deeper mind.

We talk about synchronicity when some seemingly 'pure chance' events come together to form a personal connection that has a special meaning for the observer. It's by definition bound to be personal and connected with your own life, its meaning, purpose and destiny. Synchronistic events show in my view the structure and the cornerstones of our life and our life power and consciousness. They are NOT AT ALL pure luck items but much more some kind of very energetic, meaningful coincidences of psychic energy and really challenging our consciousness and understanding of the working of the surrounding Cosmos and our self-awareness.

In connection with three personal examples below, I will explain more about the hidden energy behind it. A lot more is written on this subject and I suggest to consult at some time the list of advised readings on this site.

We have two kind of synchronistic connected items: those with an appearance in real time, contained over a short time span at a particular place and those that are spread out over certain longer periods of time. This latest is also called 'seriality' (Paul Kammerer - Austria) but I use the term 'synchronicity' in both cases as I see no distinction between them.

Please note that the following examples seem extraordinary but I see them in my therapy practice appearing with astounding regularity with all kind of people. I took personal life examples as I have a lot of detailed background information available, but similar tales can be told from the life of a lot of people.

1: A 'H(I)NT' about a new licence plate for a car.

The first example concerns the fact that I was the owner of a car that had to be transferred from one company to another. So, I requested at our 'Belgian car licence number administration' to receive a new licence number and this process took at that time about a week (in Belgium, we have a car licence number with 3 characters and 3 numbers such as 'ABC.123').

A few days after I sent in the request, I was driving the car through the quiet suburbs of Antwerp and I was thinking and wondering about what new number I probably would receive? So, I started to look around if any new licence plate was observable in the quiet traffic around me. And yes, just one minute later, I saw a car riding with a neat, brand-new licence plate. The plate showed HNT.... 'Oh nice, that's easy to remember: H(I)NT!!' And indeed, a few days later, the mail arrived with my new licence number and it turned out to be HNT.488!

If we closely look at these coincidences, we see several connections and very weird circumstances. A: In Belgium we have for each 3-character combination only 1000 possibilities. This combination as a 'new edition' is only available during a few days, the time that those 1000 new numbers are 'consumed' by 1000 new inscriptions. B: The chance to meet a new (HNT) character combination that you will receive yourself only 3-4 days later is astronomically small because only some 500 are driving around in the traffic of the whole country on a total of about 4.000.000 cars (the other 500 are still in the mail during those few days). C: The chance that you think about this phenomena when being almost - but not completely - in the vicinity of a car with this 'actual combination' is again extremely faint. D: The chance that you think of it, try to find out a 'hint' in your vicinity and actually receiving this 'H(I)NT' combination is again almost zero...

Moreover, the personal meaning of all this is only connected with me. Any other observer would see nothing special at all. Only IN MY MIND a meaningful synchronicity, far above 'pure luck' gets created. A coincidence that has a deep, symbolic language and it certainly is a burst of some kind of 'Cosmic or Psychic Energy', unknown to us yet. As the deeper meaning is only important to me, the only conclusion that's appropriate is that this coincidences are CREATED in my own perception, mind and life.

But by who or by what? Certainly by something residing deep inside my own mental and emotional processes because it has only to do with me. The clerk that mailed the licence plate sees nothing. An other driver adjacent to my car sees nothing. The owner of the car with the observed other HNT... combination sees nothing... Only for myself there is a weird but meaningful coincidence. This implicates that a deeper part of me is in some way is connected with these events (and maybe it's creating my own world continuously, 'in the flow'?)...

You could say: 'it's just a matter of clairvoyance at the right time and the right place'. But this does not change anything as the observed facts and personal coincidences still exist, besides the 'technical' explanation. The meaning and symbolic language don't change at all. The remark: 'oh, it's pure luck' doesn't mean anything. I could tell you A LOT of examples like these...

But relax and sit back. It's even getting more peculiar and weird...

2: The 'Door and Locksmith'.

The second way I observe a lot of synchronistic events in my personal life and that of my friends and clients in therapy is by events that are separated with a certain time period. In a long-term research, dating back to 1982, I observed time and again that certain items with the same 'character' tend to manifest themselves in a life with a repetitive flow or character. The delay in time between them is rather stable and has on itself also a meaning.

I will just start with a practical example.

These events have happened around 3 dates 'A, B and C', separated by a period of 8 'moons' (a 'moon' = 29.53 days on average).

This move is made with a very small moving company in two parts, separated by 2 weeks time. The first part is nice and easygoing.

A bailiff is an official person.

In the chaos, I descend a stairway in complete darkness but make a mistake. I stumble and fall 1 meter (3 feet) but land on both my feet without a scratch.

One of the police officers that came to assist succeeds in opening the door and I get in, nothing is stolen.

A police officer is an official person.

After that, I stay at a cheap hotel for 10 more days (reasonably expensive).

I ask my neighbour the address of another locksmith. She gives me a leaflet she kept aside. I phone and the same locksmith as under B arrives (again expensive).

It is obvious that in these striking coincidences, a lot of 'psychic, conflicting energy' is embedded.

They form 'strings' of different meanings (door, twofold happening, money, moving company and my children) that interact, intertwine, circle around each other and can in some way considered to form the strings in a twisted cord with different colours.

I was rather shocked by these coincidences and studied a lot afterwards to figure out their meaning for me. In observing the next connected cycles (8 moons later), it became clear to me that I had to step out of myself ('unlock'), start writing down my findings, go in the open, do my thing. Since I did this (from July 1999 on in full), the 'energy' in it was solved and spread out into a broad 'children and unlock line' with a positive character. I will however refrain from giving a lot more explanations, as these are not at all controllable and some my personal interpretations. The above mentioned facts however are FACTS. Every reader can deduce with his or her own intuition that something very peculiar and weird is going on here. Period.

3: The 'MOVE' LINE.

Nov. '72: I marry my 1st wife and move 3 weeks later.

Jan. '75: Nothing special to report besides a new project (building a new light effect system for use in a dancing hall).

Apr. '78: I buy out an associate in my thriving wholesale company and he leaves the company ('moves') on short term.

June '81: I move and sell the above company with a big loss. At my new address, a therapeutic job co-operation is offered.

Jul. '84: I think about moving but don't do it. My part-time sales job runs extremely difficult.

Oct. '87: My 2nd relationship ends and my wife moves out. The business in air-conditioning thrives very nice and I hire my first full-time technician.

Jan. '91: I move in with my 3rd wife and I hire a very successful sales manager and a professional secretary. Business is brisk and thriving. The first attempt to buy a big business premises fails (luckily, but I 'succeed' one year later = the onset of severe financial difficulties)

March '94: A business agreement falters. I put extra money into my failing company (mistake). My wife goes alone on ski holiday with her daughters (painful for me). An other business agreement is founded (afterwards not fruitful).

May '97: I come to a complete standstill (business, financial and emotional). I decide on very short notice to move (the one of the above example at 'A') and to restart my old therapist job.

Aug. '00: My two oldest sons Pieter (22) and Kim (28) moved in almost together. Pieter stayed 1.5 months whyle doing a summer job nearby and Kim stayed 9 months. My therapy practice is running very brisk these days and this site receives a lot of visitors. Read more about this practical example of my son Kim and moving in with me.

Nov. '03: My son Kim, who became himself a psychotherapist in-between, decides to stop the co-operation with me (my practice became too busy) and founded a separate therapy practice 80 Km south. So a part of my practice "moves out"!

Note added May 2005: observe as well that in the above string of "moving energy" there is also a 9.6 years main cycle and tendency at work. Each 9.6 y there is a REAL MOVE, connected with me personally - or my closest family, all others are "sort of" moving. Latest research indicates that the 9.6 years cycle is THE main one.

About Jan. '06: Last November '05, I thought it a good idea to consider to move as the rent of my apartment was a bit too expensive on the long run. Just to see and "practice" some curiosity, I visited a few buildings and almost immediately found a very nice apartment, with about the same features as the old one. It was a whopping 250 $ cheaper in rent and I almost instantly decided to move in December '05! My practice is evenly brisk these days, so I am escaping my bad omen at last!

If one overlooks the above, we see an obvious string in moving, also professional changes, a smaller link into changes in relationship and generally speaking very intense, fundamental transformations.

Note also that these moments represent each time 2x difficult energy and 2x easy going (=the famous 6.4 = 7 years life cycle). On the very same dates, I observed with at least 12 other friends and clients also 'moving lines' with an important length. Good times for moving companies!

This aspect of links in synchronicity over a certain time span as 6-12 months, over 3.2 years, 9.6 years and even over 28-29 years is not yet fully understood. A few remarcable stories exist such as the very famous tale about 'Mr Deschamps, Mr de Fortgibu and the plumpudding in Orleans' that spread out over almost half the course of a life (maybe in intervals of about 10 years? - See this extra article at wikipedia.org) but there is much more to learn as you can deduce. I studied these phenomena over 3 years in depth with over 50 human subjects and came to astounding conclusions. In my forthcoming book, I go deeper into the obvious energy behind these events ('Life Cycles Manual #1', scheduled for ???).

This is still just the tip of the iceberg and to me, this phenomena is the real signpost of the actual creation of our personal life out of an energy that is deeply embedded in our own psyche and is molded out of older personal events underneath...
