Dangerous Trip

Imagine that you, your partner and your 16-years-old-son have to cross a very dangerous, crocodile swamped jungle area to get to your new home and life destination, some 100 Km (about 60 Mil.) across....

.... You can't do it by plane or helicopter, as the village of destination has no facilities for this. You know that you have a lot of courage and strength but not enough experience and skill to do it with the three of you alone.

When looking around for a suitable guide in the village at the border of the big river, adjacent to this stretch of pristine Jungle, you find three different characters that are available to assist you in making the trip safely. Your finances are limited but the three possibilities below are feasible and time is not a problem.

The first one is a young guide (Adam), about 30 years old. Lean, powerful, good looking, with a fluent tongue and very self-confidant. After studying as an architect, he went through the 3 years of 'Jungle Survival Techniques' at the 'African-Asian Jungle University' with cum laude, succeeded in amassing several trophies of youngster expeditions and has nice references from two mayor professors at the above mentioned university.

A crocodile waiting for prey. The dilemma of making the right
choice on the right time at the right place in Jungle survival tactics He has been working as a guide for almost 3 years without any mishaps, mostly as an assistant for the technical manager of the governmental institute that supervises this area of jungle.

He is a well-educated young man with good manners, likes a laugh, is very decisive and eager to be of your service. He has to borrow most of the needed equipment. His price is very modest and he can depart in about 3 days. Estimated trip duration: 7 days.

The second man (Bob) is a bit older, about 36-37 years. He favours the perfect preparation and uses all kind of jungle-proof technology (preferably the best and the newest). His study and training was diversified in various army facilities and training camps. He is healthy and strong (albeit with a drinking habit) and talks out-loud about his features and offerings. He is very proud of his self-owned reasonably maintained equipment.

He won a Camel Trophy in 1988, was second in the crossing with kayak of the rapids upstream the Victoria waterfalls , commands a keen knowledge of mountaineering skill and speaks 3 languages. He intends to do the trip rather swift on a small hovercraft with jet propulsion. He has also a strong rubber boat available as well as all the rest of his equipment as backup just in case...

He has had the job of jungle guide for almost 7 years now and he has countered only a few technical breakdowns (without any serious mishaps).

Most of the time, he worked for big oil companies in assisting the management to get to visit remote places. Three years ago, he participated in the rescue of 3 jungle hikers by helicopter and a few months later he succeeded in buying a second hand hovercraft, and completely overhauled it. His price is rather high and he is available in 4 days. Confirmed trip duration: 2-3 days.

The third man (Charlie) is much older, at 54 years of age. He looks kind of mysterious, is a little overweight but flexible and smooth in his movements. He is not well spoken and very direct in his conversations. On the other hand, he keeps the needed equipment to the minimum, with the accent on locally tested material and work procedures. He admits that he almost lost his life three times in the 28 years that he works in the jungle (once he came back after being given up for three weeks).

When staying in the village, he enjoys everything (beer, womanfriend and some leisure time) but on the job, his luggage is kept to the extreme minimum. Mostly he works for smaller companies in agriculture and for institutions about climate research and assists with his hardware in programs of medical research (the developing of new vaccines for which he collects a lot of samples of unknown rainforest species).

A mask owned by the tribe sorcerer. Looking into dangerous circumstances assisted with a guide to survive and reach your destiny The rumour goes that he can understand the tongue of some local tribes and that he even believes in the jungle ghosts. His soonest date of departure is about 7 days, depending partly on the weather forecast and also on the fact that he first has to repair one of his two small wooden motorboats he intends to use for the trip. His price is fair. Estimated trip duration: 7 days.

Well, what do you think of it? Which of the three guides (Adam, Bob or Charlie) would you prefer for yourself?

You wonder what my personal, subjective preference is? Well, you know it already I think!...

Oh, how I like this kind of writing! This is a part of my (integrated) shadow and I suggest you to think it over for a while to discover how you see the outcoming result and compare it with mine.

If you'd like to know the reasoning behind this tale, you can find it on the following page: Solutions and thoughts about the Jungle Guide Issue.

This text is also a training in Meta View but with a differentiated instead of a connective way of looking. I hope you enjoy this kind of 'mystery writing' as I call it.
