What is meant by Meta
View? Instead of looking to
objects or events itself, one looks at the underlying 'connective
personal meaning'. This way of looking is used when working with the
Life Cycles Matrix ® Diagram in interpreting the meaning of adjacent
or connected happenings and events in a life. It can be learned in
amazingly simple exercises but one needs a little help.
What is important to the owner or the person is the meaning for HIMSELF.
A trivial thing for one person can be very important to another. And
it's the personal, emotionally perceived meaning that counts. It's
this meaning that in a symbolic way talks AND creates. |
|
This is one of the most important
pages on this site!
In workshops, I work with the normal personal items someone has with him or her such as a bunch of keys, a lighter, a pen, a mobile telephone, spectacles, his coat etc... In the classroom, I invite the owner to freely associate and tell what comes up in his mind concerning each different item in his list of chosen items. This is usually a rather detailed tale about the use and background of each item separately. Than I ask to look for himself what the interconnecting meaning is. Usually, this gives a very limited answer: 'they belong to me and I use them daily'... When I ask the other participants to join in and give their view on the perceived objects in connection with the person as the subject, things change. Every time they come up with unexpected, hidden aspects the owner himself didn't think of yet, as he is rather occupied with the 'normal' meaning for him of the items. The other participants see those objects with a different eye, start to associate and come up INVARIABLY with at least 3-4 more deeper meanings or connections. The person himself gets very interested in this crossfire about his person, his character and his essence and feels highly appreciated and seen. Usually, one can conclude this small exercise with the very deepest, connective symbolic meaning as the 'ground' or the 'base' of the person... |

...and one can feel the' YES' hanging in the air, in the energy. As this may sound abracadabra to most readers, just a few practical examples below to make a start. What do we have here on the picture at left? A group of 5 items: a pair of spectacles, a holder with sweeteners, a silver cardholder, + the name cards, + a flat magnifying glass (they are mine). Just in short, they consist of a 'heavy duty' pair of spectacles, specially chosen to see a computer screen or doing some repair work (u.o. my motorcycle). The silver card container is old, scratched and a little blackened and holds my name cards and a flat magnifying glass. The box of sweeteners I take with me as I dislike the (sticky) taste of real sugar in coffee. When walking, these items produce a faint rattle in my pocket! For the sake of clarity I kept it simple but usually, people are busy for 5-10 minutes with their detailed description. |
|
Now, first try it out for yourself and afterwards I will give you the answers. What is the connective meaning between these items in your view? I ask you to really do this exercise and not simply reading further on as often is done by habit and curiosity. This is the moment to stop reading and start doing something creative. It's also very nice to do this exercise with a companion to 'ignite' your creativity. Pause: take a break, don't read further! Think/feel about it for some time on your own and write it down! |
| In a workshop,
this very small exercise comes out as one of the most important ones,
to be remembered and appraised by all!
To give you a start in the above first group of 5 exercise: think about mobility, practical use, going out, making contact, be independent... I think this is clear for you now. What do these items tell about the owner (me): I am used to be well equipped with small, handy utensils. As I dislike the taste of real sugar in coffee I make sure to have a solution to that. The same with my eyesight that is getting worse (being 54) and asks for precautions. In Meta View: they mean the urge to work really essential, to make sure that visual contact is always easy and comfortable, to be handy and mobile. On a deeper level: readiness, useful information and contact. |
| The deepest
level: contact between people
in the most appropriate way and this is the Dharma or life goal
of my whole life: communication! You see what I mean? Starting
from a very ordinary set of personal belongings, you can trace back
a real, deep essence, as longs as you stay looking in a
connective way !
Suppose a 'negative, analytic person' looks at the same items, this person could make conclusions or evaluations as follows (this is just an example): 'Rik is rather old as he needs a lot of viewing aids and is probably on a constant diet and not very social as he dislikes what the host serves (real sugar). The box with cards is rather scratched, old fashioned and a little dirty, he should clean it up. The whole group items makes noise in his pocket when entering my doorway, he seems an odd, chaotic person'... Well, the essence of all this? Fill it in for yourself, but this fictive 'analytic' person will certainly have a very different view of the world compared with mine and I will have to be rather patient in our communication, if ever we come to a fruitful mutual understanding at all. Why is this happening? In the Meta View, we look at the connective meaning = what is more common between all. We look from one item to the other in connecting interpretations. This gives ALWAYS a positive result at the bottom line, and the 'positive energy' increases while diving deeper. Each meaning of the adjacent item increases the understanding of the others. At the end, you come in contact with a very essential characteristic of the person or the group of items. He feels seen and understood in his soul and he will go to great length to find a mutual way of co-operating, doing business, following therapy with you or whatsoever. Every time we do this exercise with somebody, this person feels really appreciated. In the analytic, detailed 'negative' way of looking the meaning of the items has a destabilizing effect as there is going on a constant evaluation and comparison with the meaning of the adjacent item. Conclusions are closed and negatively biased, trying to 'separate' something. End result: bah, not very interesting, drop it, is that all ?.... |

Creativity runs higher and the general 'energy' household of a person is heightened. And the main driving force behind this Meta View is: "?", our question mark. You start to understand what happens? You feel curious now? You like to learn more about it? Interesting isn't it? Yes! |
| This
Meta View is more than simple holistic viewing.
It actively searches for connective strings of meanings or 'energy'
on a deeper level, causing a higher flow of kundalini, positive 'stress
hormones', broad smiles and above all: curiosity.
I suggest very badly to do this small exercise above with some friends together. Just to give you an appetite, here a few other examples of another sort of exercises but also connective: What is the connecting way between a move, a birth of a child, a promotion, winning the pool and a nice second hand washing machine? Answers: a sudden, important change in the way a household gets organized, a new opportunity into luxury or life pleasure, and a nice moment to decorate a baby room. What is the connection between a copier, a car, a truck, a 3 wheeler and an old fashioned clock? They work all with wheels. |
| What
happens if we change the old fashioned clock for a new digital clock?
The 3 wheeler gets excluded
as it's a toy and all the other contain some electronics. You feel the
exclusion of the ol' tiny 3 wheeler? Its disappointment not to be in
the group anymore? Its pain in getting excluded?
If we ask who are the oldest invented members of the above first group? The 3 wheeler and the old clock, the truck, the car and the copier in decreasing 'invention age'. |
| Just observe the
transitions of the' feelings' of the 3 wheeler in the various settings
above. From being just a tiny member, to the bottom (exclusion), to
the top ranking. This means that in a real time situation around you,
every item, aspect or person has an interacting and meaningful way of
being unique in the whole and at the same time serving a greater picture
with its or his presence. If we think in terms of energies radiating,
we start to get a glimpse of the universe on a deeper level.
As long as we connect and put together it stays positive and creative. Once you start to exclude, to analyse, the 'pain', the tension sets in! |

Now, we
go to the second exercise with the following picture: a group of 10
items: Clockwise
from left a Belgian beer crown cork, an empty box for nice cheese, a
wine cork, a holder for a film roll, a candle tea light, a herbs container,
a cigar tube, a paper that held a praline, a stopper of a bottle, a
plastic spoon. Now, the
same question arises: what stand these objects for in a Meta View connected
way?
There is one meaning intentionally brought in but I have in-between experienced that my pupils found out at least 4 additional and valuable answers to this question. Give it a try, think and feel about it. Listen to your first hunch, circle around them. It's really nice and at the same time frustrating but when found, you feel great! Let your connective imagination come up, take hold and feel like a detective who looks for signs about a hidden visitor who left behind some indications of his character or way of..... |
|
To give you the opportunity to search for it for some time (at ease?), this text continues on another page ('Meta View 2'). But I invite you to print this page out first and start thinking for yourself what the solution to the above question could be. By just clicking and reading further, you'll miss an important opportunity to get a real first hand experience in finding yourself the solution. The 'AHA' moment! Dec. 1999 - Rik Wellens ;-) |
